Family is Everything Tweets Olympian Scott Hamilton who will keynote at #RootsTech

Scoot Hamitlon #RootsTech 2018

As a little girl, I was glued to the television as I watched the performance of a male figure skater wearing a royal blue near unitard with long sleeves embellished with a red v-stripe around his neck and extending along his upper sleeves. He began his long-program with his right arm raised and his left arm bent and parallel to the ice in front of him. The question on everyone's mind was would Scott Hamilton deliver a solid performance in the men's long-program to capture the gold medal in 1984 while in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia?

He turned in a wonderful performance, at least according to this elementary school-aged little girl, and earned 5.8s-5.9s on the artistic portion of his scores. He wasn't pleased with his performance, but he did take home gold. And since that day Scott Hamilton has been an iconic figure in my life.

Ten years later, Scott Hamilton rocked the house with music, multi-colored outfit with a loose flying vest. His bum shaking, charlie chapman, gorilla walking number was amazing. Boy, this guy is an entertainer!!! He ended his number with his famous backflip and a little ice-skating moonwalk. So many people who disliked 'traditional' ice skating found Scott's professional exhibitions a must see!

Scott transitioned into figure skating analysts. I often found his reporting insightful, encouraging, but also direct. He would praise what needed to be celebrated and be frank about flaws. It's no surprise that his version of commentary brought him to seven Olympics to provide rink side coverage.

Now, the Ohio native will bring his energy to the RootsTech stage on Friday, March 2, 2018. Will it be possible for him to speak without his blades? It's entirely possible. Scott is a motivational speaker with topics ranging from "How the Short Person Can Rise Above Their Expectations," "What I Learned from Seven Olympics," and "Making Every Moment Count." He's even presented at TEDex!

RootsTech press releases have suggested that Scott Hamilton will talk about why attitude is everything. That fits nicely with the Family History Fanatics theme that if family history isn't fun, you're doing it wrong. Feedback from Scott's presentations at cancer survivor rallies and corporate summits have highlighted the fact that Scott leaves his audiences energized and motived by his eternal optimistic outlook. And who couldn't miss the thrill of having a former US Olympic champion in their midst?
